    Boston Bruins History

The Bruins found a home in Boston on November 1, 1924. Charles Francis Adams paid the NHL and in return gave way to a new hockey team in Massachusetts. The Bruins won their first NHL game with the help of players Fred Harris and Carson Cooper. After Charles Adams bought the Western Canada Hockey League, the Bruins acquired Eddie Shore, a defenseman from Canada who is still known as one of the greats of hockey.

The naming of the Bruins came about from a simple contest held by citizens of a town in Vermont. Charles Adams had a few rules for those wanting to submit a suggestion: must have the colors brown and yellow (matching the theme of his grocery stores), the name would relate to an untamed animal, be categorized with strong, agile, ferocious and cunning and still relate to his primary goal of a brown color scheme. Although many gave answers, none fed Adams to his needs. It wasn’t until his secretary offered an opinion of the Bruins that the Boston Bruins came to life.
