Buffalo Sabres History
Dating back to 1970, the Buffalo Sabres have made 29 NHL Playoff appearances and over 1700 wins. The Sabres started when Seymour H. Knox III and Northrup Knox bought the team and become owners. Although many Buffalo teams had been known as the Bisons, the Knox’s wanted a better, more concrete name. Seymour Knox decided a sabre, a weapon carried to fight and lead, was effective for both fighting for and defending and carried that name to be efficient on both offense and defense, thus leading to the existence of the Buffalo Sabres. In 1970, the Buffalo Sabres debuted their team along with another Buffalo team, the NFL Buffalo Bills and the NBA Buffalo Braves (now known as the Los Angeles Clippers).
Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame
The Buffalo Sabres greats date back many years to the current years. The Sabres have one player with multiple records: Gilbert Perreault has the leading record in all-time goal and all-time points. Gilbert lead the “French Connection” line for the Sabres and it is known to be the franchise’s best lineup to date. Rick Martin and Rene Robert also made up the French Connection and now all three players have their jersey number retired.
