The Cincinnati Bengals, based in Cincinnati, Ohio, compete in the American Football Conference. The Bengals are in the North division along with the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bengals play in Paul Brown Stadium. However, to start their franchise, the Bengals played all their home games in Nippert Stadium. The team then shared a stadium with the Cincinnati Reds at the Riverfront Stadium. The Bengals began in the AFL. When Paul Brown was released as the Cleveland Browns head coach, Brown decided to create another team within the NFL. Brown decided Cincinnati had great pull from surrounding cities, as shown through the Cincinnati Reds. After the merger between the AFL and NFL, the Bengals went to the AFC. Brown was the head coach for the Bengals for the first eight seasons until 1975. He then maintained ownership of the team as president.

The Browns saw success in the 1980's with two AFC Championships in 1981 and 1988. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the team when Paul Brown passed away in 1991. The rest of the 90's and the early 2000's the Bengals didn't post a winning season for over a decade. With the hire of head coach Marvin Lewis, the Bengals finally posted a winning season. Then, quarterback Andy Dalton came to the scene and helped the Bengals reach the playoffs for five years in a row. Dalton, along with wide receiver AJ Green, the two became a promising duo for the Bengals. The QB, WR combination was strong and helped the Bengals gain back some respect throughout the NFL.

The Bengals sport orange, black, and white. The mascot, the Bengal tiger, is named Who Dey. The team’s uniforms have an interesting turn of events. When Paul Brown was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns, he owned all the attire and equipment. When he was released, he left the Browns, but took all of his gear with him. He re-used all the gear for the Bengals which is why the Bengals and Browns have such similar colors and styles.
