One of the more historically accomplished teams in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The Cowboys spent their first 11 years playing at the Cotton Bowl, which remains the only Cowboys stadium within Dallas city limits. In 1971 the Cowboys moved into iconic Texas Stadium in Irving. The Cowboys would remain in Irving for 37 years before moving to Arlington and settling into AT&T Stadium ahead of the 2009-10 season.

Having been coined ‘America’s Team’, the Cowboys historically rank as one of the most successful franchises in the NFL. With five Super Bowl titles (VI, XII, XXVII, XXVIII, XXX) to their name Dallas currently ranks second in all time Super Bowl wins, trailing the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers who each have six entering the 2019-20 season. Along with the Super Bowl titles have come eight NFC Championships, which currently is the most of any NFC team.

The Cowboys haven’t always been predicated on winning alone however, billionaire owner Jerry Jones took over the team in 1989 and has made the Cowboys the most valuable franchise in all of sports. Dallas also boasts one of the largest fan bases in the NFL which allows them to travel to away stadiums as well as any team in the NFL.

The Cowboys have made a total of 33 playoff appearances in their history and have claimed 24 division championships. Since joining the NFC East in 1970, Dallas has claimed 20 of those 24 division titles.

The list of legendary names to wear the famed Cowboys star on their helmet seemingly goes on and on. One of the most well-known names of Cowboys lore though remains that of long time head coach Tom Landry. Landry led Dallas from 1960-1988 winning two Super Bowl titles, five NFC titles and 13 divisional titles. Landry posted an unprecedented 20 consecutive winning seasons in his tenure and his 29 seasons as head coach with one team still stands as an NFL coaching record.

Other notable Hall of Fame Cowboys include Roger Staubach, Randy White, Tony Dorsett, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and countless others.
