Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest and most storied franchises in the NFL. The Packers have remained in Green Bay ever since that first season and have played in their original city longer than any other team in the NFL. The Packers spent their earliest seasons playing home games at Bellevue Park and Hagemeister Park in Green Bay. In 1925, the Pack moved into City Stadium and would remain there till 1956. In the 1950s, the NFL deemed City Stadium outdated and threatened to move the team to Milwaukee unless Green Bay could come up with a better stadium. In its place, a new City Stadium was built in 1957 and later renamed Lambeau Field, after Curly Lambeau. Lambeau remains the oldest continually operating stadium in the NFL.

Celebrating their 100th anniversary in the 2019-20 season, the Packers have had plenty of time to make themselves the winningest franchise in NFL history. Green Bay boasts 13 championships with nine of those coming prior to the NFL-AFL merger and four Super Bowl titles (I, II, XXXI, XLV).

The Packers have totaled a whopping 32 playoff appearances prior to the 2019-20 season and have claimed 18 division championships in that time. Currently a member of the NFC North division, the Packers have won nine of their division titles since the NFC Central became the NFC North in 2002.

With such a rich history, the Packers have featured plenty of legendary names. The one most NFL fans have heard of is that of Vince Lombardi. The former coach led Green Bay to five championships in his nine seasons including winning the first two Super Bowls. The Super Bowl trophy is also named after Lombardi ensuring his name will be remembered for years to come.

The Packers have inducted 25 members into the Hall of Fame with names spanning across every generation. Curly Lambeau spent 30 years as a player and coach for the Packers winning six championships in all. Ray Nitschke was an all-pro linebacker that won five championships in his time with Green Bay. Bart Starr also won five championships under Lombardi and was named MVP of Super I and II.

Reggie White and Brett Favre helped the Packers hoist their next Super Bowl trophy following the 1996-97 season. White to this day remains one of the NFL’s all-time leading sack artists while Favre was a three-time MVP that retired with several passing records to his name.

Today the Packers are led by another quarterback great, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers helped lead the Packers to a Super Bowl title in 2011 and was named MVP of Super Bowl XLV. Rodgers has also hung two MVP trophies on his wall and remains one of the most efficient passers the NFL has ever seen.
