The New York Jets play in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The Jets share the stadium with the New York Giants as well. The Jets compete in the AFC East division along with Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and the New England Patriots.

Founded in 1959, the team was originally known at the Titans of New York. The team merged into the AFC from the AFL and formally changed their name to the Jets in 1963. The name was chosen because the team was to play in the Shea Stadium near the New York airport.

In 1997, Bill Parcells left the New England Patriots to become the head coach of the NY Jets. He earned the team an AFC Championship in 1998. Leon Hess, the owner of the Jets, had a good relationship with Parcells but when Hess passed away in 1999, Parcells left the Jets as the head coach. He turned the coaching position over to his assistant, Bill Belichick. However, that very next day, Belichick resigned from the position and took a job elsewhere: the New England Patriots.

Recently, the team has undergone a design transformation and changed their uniforms, colors, and logo. The New York Jets used to be green and white, but now the team sports a darker green called “Gotham Green” along with white and now black. The Jets logo also changed to look more modern, though the new logo resembles the original with just a few tweaks and changes.

Some of the greatest Jets of all time include RB Curtis Martin, QB Joe Namath, DE Joe Klecko, WR Al Toon, DE Mark Gastineau, and CB Darrelle Revis.

The New York Jets quarterback, Joe Namath, also known as Broadway Joe, played for the Jets from 1965 to 1976. Namath received national attention when the 1968 season rolled around. At that time, the Indianapolis Colts were regarded as the greatest team in football history. The Colts and the Jets were set to play in Super Bowl III. Broadway Joe, sick of the media siding with the Colts for Super Bowl win, told the press “We’re going to win the game. I guarantee it.” In that game on January 12, 1969, Namath went 17 for 29 passing completions and 206 yards. The Jets did win the Super Bowl 16-7 and Namath’s quote “I guarantee it,” became legendary.
