    North Carolina State University is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. NC State sports red and white for their team’s colors. The motto is “Think and Do.” NC State became established in 1887 as North Carolina A&M. By 1918 The school saw its growth within multiple fields of studies and change its name to North Carolina State. However, through many years and protests, the school officially changed its name again in the mid 1960’s to North Carolina State University at Raleigh

    The athletics program participated in the NCAA Division 1 bracket in the Atlantic Coast Conference, also known as the ACC. NC State teams are called the “Wolfpacks.” NCSU has won eight national championships. The biggest rivalry for the Wolfpacks is against North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tarheels. The schools are only a 30-minute drive apart and are relatively similar in size and structure.

    The basketball team for NC State is a founding member of the ACC. The Wolfpacks have won two national championships in 1974 and 1983. The Pack began playing in 1911 thanks to the efforts of Guy Bryan. The team began as an intercollegiate team and often practiced outside at a nearby park. It wasn’t until 1924 hen Gus Tebell became the head coach and changed the school’s history. He helped the team to win its first conference championship in 1929 and still retains the best overall coaching record at 79-36.

    Norm Sloan became the Wolfpacks head coach from 1967 to 1980. In his tenure, he helped to recruit some great players along with earn consistent winning records. Sloan only had one losing season within his time at NC State. Sloan also led the team to its first National Championship in 1974 against Maryland. The game went into overtime but triumphed 103-100, with 38 points to Tom Burleson’s. The very next year, the Pack made a return to the title game and beat Marquette 76-64.

    Some great players have come from NC State and those include, David Thompson, Rodney Monroe, Julius Hodge, T.J. Warren and Dennis Smith Jr.
