The Washington Football Team is one of the oldest franchises in the NFL, getting their start in 1932 as the Boston Braves. The team changed their name to the Redskins in 1933, and the team relocated to Washington, D.C. in 1937. The team picked up the first of its five championships in 1937, and won their second in 1942. The Washington Football Team has also won three Super Bowls, with their first coming in 1982. The team also brought home the hardware in 1987 and 1991.

The team plays their home games at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, and are headquartered in Ashburn, Virginia. The team is a member of the NFL's NFC Conference, and are members of the NFC East. In their history, the team has won fourteen division titles and six conference championships. Their current uniform scheme pairs burgundy with gold.

The team has a rich tradition of winning, as well as a rich tradition of talent. The name most synonymous with the Redskins team might actually be former Head Coach Joe Gibbs, who guided the team to each of their three Super Bowl victories. Gibbs coached the team from 1981-92, and came back for a brief stint from 2004-07. Upon his retirement as a head coach in 1992, he switched his focus to NASCAR and created Joe Gibbs Racing, and he has won four NASCAR Cup Series championships as an owner. Gibbs also serves as a special advisor for the Redskins to this day.

Gibbs became the first coach in NFL history to lead his team to three Super Bowl victories with three different starting quarterbacks. The team won Super Bowl XVII with Joe Theismann under center, then won Super Bowl XXII with Doug Williams. The Redskins then won Super Bowl XXVI with Mark Rypien.

The Washington Football Team is well-represented in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including Gibbs, John Riggins, Darrell Green, Art Monk and Russ Grimm to name a few.

After the addition of Ryan Fitzpatrick in the offseason, the Football Team will look to ride their defense to the playoffs for the second straight year. With a blistering pass rush including four first round picks, the Washington defense became as deadly as every in 2020, even giving the eventual Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers trouble in their playoff matchup. With additions such as Jamin Davis, William Jackson III, and Curtis Samuel, the Football Team looks ready to wreak havoc in the NFC East.
