The New England Patriots (Originally Boston Patriots) are based just outside of Boston, Massachusetts and currently play their home games inside of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The team was established in 1959, with their first season coming in 1960 as members of the American Football League. They joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.

The Patriots are one of the most successful franchises in the NFL, boasting twenty-one division championships, eleven conference championships and six Super Bowl championships. Their eleven Super Bowl appearances are the most all time.

While the team has seen success throughout its entire existence, their run that began in 2000 with the arrival of head coach Bill Belichick and former quarterback Tom Brady is one that stands alone in NFL history. Since 2001, the team has claimed 17 AFC East titles and have nineteen consecutive winning seasons. Their 126 victories from 2003-2012 are the most of any team over a ten-year period in NFL history and their 21-game winning streak from October 2003 to October 2004 is also the longest in the history of the league. The Patriots also won eleven consecutive division titles from 2009 to 2020.

The Patriots appeared in nine Super Bowls with Brady at quarterback and Belichick as head coach, the most ever by a coach-quarterback combination. Their six wins are also a record.

The amazing run for the Patriots started when the team played in Foxboro Stadium, where they played from 1971-2001. The team moved into Gillette Stadium in 2002 and currently play there to this day.

In all, the New England Patriots have seven numbers officially retired and have a total of nine players that donned the Patriots uniform in the NFL Hall of Fame. Andre Tippett, John Hanna, Mike Haynes, Nick Buoniconti and Ty Law all spent significant parts of their career with the Patriots, while Bill Parcells, Curtis Martin, Junior Seau and Randy Moss are also former Pats.

After drafting Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Patriots now have a quarterback duel on their hands between Jones and ex-MVP Cam Newton. Since missing the playoffs in 2020 for the first time since 2008, Coach Belichick has made some key offseason additions, including the signings of tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry. With a winning reputation, the Patriots organization is hopeful that they will return to their glory in the near future.
