The Minnesota Twins began their existence as the Washington Senators in 1901, playing in Washington until moving to Minneapolis ahead of the 1961 season.

The Minnesota Twins are members of the American League, playing within the American League Central Division. The other teams that play in the AL Central are the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals.

The Twins, who are named after the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, play their home games at Target Field, which opened on April 12, 2010. Before Target Field, the team played at the famous Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome from 1982 to 2009. The Twins played in Metropolitan Stadium from the time they moved to Minnesota up until 1981.

The Minnesota Twins have won three World Series titles as a franchise, with two of the three coming with the team in Minnesota. The first title for the franchise came in 1924 as the Washington Senators, with the other two titles coming in Minnesota as the Twins in 1987 and 1991. The Twins have also won six American League pennants and eleven division titles in their history, including being crowned the 2019 American League Central champions.

The Senators/Twins franchise has been graced with some great players in their history. The Senators had Hall of Famers Walter Johnson, Goose Goslin, Sam Rice and Bucky Harris in their early days. The Minnesota Twins have had Hall of Fame talent as well, including Bert Blyleven, Rod Carew, Harmon Killebrew and Kirby Puckett.

More recently, the Twins have had generational talents such as Torii Hunter, Johan Santana and Michael Cuddyer, all of which are in the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame. They will likely be joined soon by potential Hall of Famer Joe Mauer, who retired from baseball in 2018 after a brilliant 15-year career with his hometown team.
