The Seattle Seahawks joined the NFL in 1976 as the 28th franchise in the league, all as part of league expansion. The Seahawks joined the same year as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team was created to give the citizens of the Pacific Northwest a team to call their own within the NFL, and the franchise has become one of the most popular in the league. The Seahawks originally played their home game in Seattle's Kingdome, and currently play their home games at CenturyLink Field. CenturyLink Field is home to the famous "12th Man," which is the nickname given to the Seattle Seahawks fans.

The Seahawks are members of the National Football Conference (NFC) and play within the NFC West along with the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. The Seahawks have won a total of ten division championships since their inception in 1976, with most of their success coming after the NFL merger in 2002. The team has also won three conference championships and hold a record of 1-2 in their three Super Bowl appearances. The team lost 21-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL as well as to the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX, 28-24. The team won their only title in Super Bowl XLVIII when they defeated the Denver Broncos, 43-8.

The team has had a lot of success in the 2000s, but really took off after the hiring of head coach Peter Carroll in 2010. Carroll has led the team to multipe division titles, NFC Championship games and a pair of Super Bowls in his tenure, with most of the victories coming with Russell Wilson under center for the Seahawks. Carroll was also the architect for the "Legion of Boom," which was a nickname given to the Seahawks' hard-nosed defense of the early 2010s. That defense was led by Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

After another disappointing playoff appearance in 2020, the Seahawks spent the offseason trying to build around their franchise quarterback Russell Wilson. With additions such as Gabe Jackson and Gerald Everett to the offense, Wilson will be more protected and have another threat in the passing game. In addition, the seahawks were able to pick up edge rusher Kerry Hyder who will provide an instant upgrade to the pass rush. After a solid offseason, the Seahawks will look to make a deep run in the playoffs with their improved roster.
