The Edmonton Oilers are a hockey team based in Edmonton, Alberta. Founded in 1972, the Edmonton Oilers were originally called the Alberta Oilers and the were members of the WHA. After just one season, the were renamed the Edmonton Oilers which they have been named ever since. After six more seasons in the WHA, the Oilers joined the NHL in 1979.
In their near fifty years of existence, the Edmonton Oilers have had a fair amount of success. In total, the Oilers have won seven division championships, two Presidents’ Trophies, seven conference championships, and five Stanley Cups coming in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990. The Oilers have had many great players over the years, including Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, and Connor McDavid, who is currently the team's captain and one of the top players in the NHL.
