New York Jets Events

The New York Jets franchise began in 1959 as the Titans of New York, an original American Football League member that began play in 1960. They gained their current name in 1963 after new owners took over the team.

After struggling in their early years, the Jets signed quarterback Joe Namath in 1965. Namath famously nicknamed “Broadway Joe,” began a major turnaround for the franchise, bringing the team’s first winning season in 1967 and helping the Jets to their lone AFL Championship victory in 1968. Namath and the Jets then defied the odds and defeated the National Football League champion Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl III in 1968.

The Jets have made the playoffs 14 times and have won four division titles, two of those coming before the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 and two coming after.

Some notable players who have played for the Jets include Joe Namath, Darrelle Revis, Curtis Martin, Kevin Mawae and Wesley Welker.

Where do the New York Jets play?

The Titans played three seasons at The Polo Grounds before changing their name to the New York Jets and moving into Shea Stadium for the 1964 season. Today, the Jets play inside MetLife Stadium, which opened ahead of the 2010 season, and they share the stadium with the New York Giants.

Who are the New York Jets biggest rivals?

The Patriots, Bears, Ravens, Bills, Lions and Dolphins.

The Jets have many rivalries since they are one of the earlier teams founded. The rivalry with the Patriots is one of the top matchups in the league since the 1980s, both teams traded different players and coaches making the teams despise each other year in and year out.

Since the Jets share a stadium with the Giants and have for quite some time, their rivalry stems from a long time ago. With both teams being from New York City the games can get very intense.
