Located in Brooklyn, New York, the Brooklyn Nets are one of two NBA franchises in New York City (the other being the New York Knicks). The Nets have been around since 1967 with the American Basketball Association but it was not until the ABA merged with the NBA that the Nets began their journey to compete for the NBA title.

The Brooklyn Nets play their home games at the Barclays Center, which opened in 2012. The move to the Barclays center brought the Nets back to New York from New Jersey, where they played from 1977 until 2012.

The Nets are members of the Eastern Conference, playing within the Atlantic Division. Other members of the Atlantic Division include the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors.

The Brooklyn Nets have won five division titles, five conference titles and one championship in their history. Their 1974 division title came as members of the ABA, with three of their conference titles (1972, 1974 and 1976) coming in the ABA. Their two championships also came in the ABA, with those victories coming in 1974 and 1976.

Some of the best players to wear a Nets uniform in the team’s history include Hall of Famer Julius Erving (1973-1976) and John Williamson (1973-1980). Both men played a key role in helping the Nets to their only two titles in franchise history. Another Hall of Fame player that spent a good portion of his career with the Nets was Jason Kidd, who played with the team from 2001 through 2008. Kidd led the Nets to their first NBA Finals appearance in the 2001-02 season, finishing second in MVP voting.

The Brooklyn Nets of today are working towards building a roster that can compete for titles. The team added Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, although each player came to Brooklyn injured. Irving played sparingly in his first season in Brooklyn, while Durant missed the entire season.
