Founded in 1923, the Sacramento Kings originally started as a semi-professional team named the Rochester Seagrams located in Rochester, New York. In 1945, they joined the NBL and were renamed the Rochester Royals. In 1948, the team joined the BAA, the forerunner of the NBA. In 1957, the team then moved to Cincinnati and were renamed the Cincinnati Royals. Then in 1972, the team moved to Kansas City and became the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, as they originally played half of their home games in Omaha. The name was later changed to the Kansas City Kings after three seasons. Finally, the franchise moved again after the 1984-85 season, and they became the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings have had some successful seasons in their history, including a run of eight consecutive playoff appearances from 1999 to 2006. However, they have struggled in recent years and have not made the playoffs since 2006. In their near 100-year existence, the Sacramento Kings have had some legendary players come through their franchise. Some of those players include Bob Davies, Jerry Lucas, Nate Archibald, Maurice Stokes, Vlade Divac, Oscar Robertson, Clyde Lovellette, Ralph Sampson, Jo Jo White, and Chris Webber.
