The Arizona Cardinals are the longest-running professional football team in the United States, getting their start as the Morgan Athletic Club in 1898. The team originated in Chicago as an amateur football team before joining the NFL as a charter member in 1920. The team moved to St. Louis in 1960, becoming known as the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals remained in St. Louis through the 1987 season before heading west to Tempe, Arizona. From 1988 to 2005, the Arizona Cardinals played their home games in Tempe, but in 2006 they moved to their current home field in Glendale. The Cardinals currently play in State Farm Stadium (formerly University of Phoenix Stadium) as members of the NFL's NFC West division.

The Arizona Cardinals franchise has won two championships (1925, 1947), with both coming while the team was still in Chicago. The team currently holds the longest active championship drought of all major North American sports teams at 70+ years. The Arizona Cardinals nearly ended that drought in 2009 when the Kurt Warner-led team defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2008-09 NFC Championship game to advance to face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. In their only appearance in the Super Bowl, the Cardinals fell to the Steelers, 27-23.

The Arizona Cardinals franchise has won five division titles (1974, 1975, 2008, 2009 and 2015) and have appeared in one Super Bowl (2009). The Cardinals are currently the only NFL franchise to have a perfect playoff record at home, boasting a 5-0 mark. The 2008-09 Arizona Cardinals, which won two home playoff games, fielded one of the best rosters in team history, with Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin leading the high-powered offense.

The Arizona Cardinals will look improve on an 8-8 season that left them out of the playoffs for the 5th straight season. Third year quarterback Kyler Murray and All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins look poised to lead the Cardinals to their first playoff appearance since 2015, especially after the signings of players like J.J. Watt and veteran receiver A.J. Green.
