In 1970, the team renamed themselves to the Texas Chaparrals and played their games in both Fort Worth and Lubbock before moving back to Dallas before the 1971-72 season. Eventually, the team was moved to San Antonio and renamed the San Antonio Spurs in 1973. One of the most iconic figures associated with the Spurs is head coach Gregg Popovich, who has been with the team since 1996 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NBA history.
