The Miami Dolphins have a rich tradition in the NFL, with the team making three consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the early 1970s. The team made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1971, falling to the Cowboys. The following season, the Dolphins completed the only perfect season in NFL history. The team finished 14-0 in the regular season and won all three of their playoff games, including a victory in Super Bowl VII. The Dolphins would once again bring home a championship in 1973, winning Super Bowl VIII.

The Dolphins would make the playoffs three more times in the 1970s and then make five more playoff appearances in the 1980s. The team has made the playoffs 25 times and won 13 divisional titles.

From 1966-1968 The Dolphins had a live mascot, Flipper, who was in an open tank near an endzone and would do tricks and flips after the Dolphins scored. Since 1968, The Dolphins have had a nonliving mascot due to cost and stress to the animals.

The Miami Dolphins were led to their three Super Bowls by longtime coach, Don Shula, who coached from 1970-1995. Some notable Hall of Famers who played for The Dolphins include Bob Griese, Dan Marino, Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas and Junior Seau.
