The Cincinnati Reds are members of the National League, playing within the Central division. The Reds compete in the NL Central against the Milwaukee Brewers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cincinnati Reds colors are red, black and white. The Reds play their home games inside the Great American Ball Park, which was built in 2003.

The history of the Cincinnati Reds dates to 1882 when the team was known as the Red Stockings. The team shortened the team name to the Reds in 1890 but switched the official name to the “Redlegs” ahead of the 1954 season. The “Redlegs” name stuck for just five seasons before the franchise decided to switch their name back to the Reds ahead of the 1959 season. The team has also been known to go by the nickname, Big Red Machine, with that nickname originating in the early 1970s to describe the team’s high-powered offense at the time.

The Cincinnati Reds organization has won five World Series championships in their history, with the most recent coming in 1990. Their other titles came in 1919, 1940, 1975 and 1976, with the titles in 1975 and ’76 coming from the era of The Big Red Machine. The era of The Big Red Machine began in 1970 under hall of fame manager Sparky Anderson. The team found success with historic players such as Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Joe Morgan and Pete Rose. The team won a lot of games from 1970 thru 1976, culminating with a pair of World Series titles in ’75 and ’76.

The team would struggle for a few years before returning to the top when they brought home the 1990 World Series championship behind manager Lou Piniella and future hall of famer Barry Larkin.

Since 2013, the Reds have appeared in the playoffs two times, earning wild card births in both the 2013 and 2020 seasons. In 2013, the Reds would fall to the Pittsburgh Pirates in their wild-card game, and in 2020, the Reds lost their first-round series to the Atlanta Braves two games to zero.
