One of the best known teams for its past players like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal and Magic Johnson, the Los Angeles Lakers have been dominant and have numerous championships, five of which came from the "Showtime Lakers" winning five in nine years in the 80's. The Lakers have been one of the league’s most well-known teams since the beginning of time. The franchise came about in 1947 as the Minneapolis Lakers. It wasn't until 1960 that the Lakers became the Los Angeles Laker that many know and love today.

The Lakers play at Staples Center and play in the Western Conference apart of the Pacific Division. The team's colors are gold and purple. The Lakers all began, as mentioned earlier, in 1947, but were created due to another team failing within the National Basketball League. The team was bought for $15,000 and moved to Minnesota. Because Minnesota is known for all the surrounding lakes, calling the new team a name that embodies that, the Lakers now had a home and a team name. Helping the Lakers in the early years, the team was lead by George Mikan. For many years, Mikan became the powerhouse of the Lakers and carried the team to success. However, Mikan retired in 1954 and the Lakers began to see their first season of struggle. By 1960, the owner decided to move west, and the Lakers became the first West Coast team in pro basketball.

The team has been known for championships ever since their move to Los Angeles, with the likes of Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain in the early 1970s, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 1980s and Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in the 2000s. After Bryant retired, the Lakers began to struggle year to year, but a new era began in 2018 when LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the storied Los Angeles Lakers franchise.

During the NBA Bubble in 2020, LeBron and the Lakers dominated. They would go on to beat Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat in six games, securing LeBron his fourth NBA Championship.

In addition to LeBron, some of the key players on the current roster include Anthony Davis, Dennis Schroeder, Andre Drummond, and Montrezl Harrell. With the majority of the key players signed on multi-year deals, the Lakers should be dominant for years to come.
